Obituary of Jose Tainatongo Castro

Jose Tainatongo Castro Jr. passed away on Friday, October 9th, 2020 at the age of 51. He was the loving husband of Nami Castro. They shared 14 wonderful years of marriage together.

Jose was born on September 29th, 1969 in Tamuning, Guam to parents Jose Baza Castro and Othelia Mafnas Tainatongo. In 1990, he joined the U.S. Army as an Airborne Infantryman and later made it through selection to become a Green Beret in the Special Forces where he spent most of his career. Jose was afraid of heights, but that did not stop him from being a great jumpmaster instructor. He retired in 2015 after serving for 25 years.

Jose was highly active; he enjoyed running marathons and racing in triathlons. His dream was to race in the Iron Man Triathlon. He also loved practicing jiu jitsu and yoga. He was a blue belt in jiu jitsu but had the technique of a black belt. He was a certified yoga instructor while living in Okinawa, Japan.

Jose was a very family-oriented father. He loved to travel with his family any chance he could get. He had a delightful sense of humor and the ability to make anyone laugh.

Jose is survived by his wife, Nami Castro; his two daughters, Holly Othelia Castro and Sophia Lana Castro; his brother, Michael Castro; his sister, Yvonne Castro; his father, Jose Baza Castro; his step-mother, Janet Castro and many extended family members and friends
