Obituary of Kay Tonoko

Kay Tonoko (nee Kazuyo Fujii), age 84, of Federal Way, WA, died unexpectedly on January 26, 2021. She was born in Kumamoto, Kyushu Japan. After getting married, she moved across the ocean and lived in Chicago, IL for 30 years. Upon her husband’s retirement, the couple took an adventure to the Pacific Northwest where she resided in Federal Way, WA for over 30 years.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her son, William. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Zurawski, her son-in-law, Bob and her two grandsons, Daniel and James, Wheaton, IL.

Kay was a very devoted and proud grandmother, always sharing stories of her grandsons’ achievements. She doted on them and made sure they had nice haircuts and baseball caps to protect their eyes from the sun. Photos of her family and cards that she received could be found throughout her home.

Kay loved living in the Latitude Condominium Homes in Federal Way, WA, and had the best neighbors and friends there. She could be found exercising and socializing at the clubhouse/gym daily. She was very grateful for the free Hyde Shuttle service in the area and looked forward to her weekly Wednesday trip to Walmart Supercenter with the caring van drivers. She also enjoyed walking to the local Fred Meyer with her shopping bag with wheels.

Kay will be laid to rest along side her husband, James, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), Honolulu, HI.
